Conventional Vs. Organic


Organic means the food is planted in an old-school style with the not much artificial process in it. They aren’t using fertilizers to control weeds, not even pesticides to worn off insects. Everything about organic food is non-chemical and natural soil and water. Though production is somehow limited, it is still great because it promotes conservation while creating less pollution. Conventional methods, on the other hand, use a lot of different stuff to able to grow and produce a large amount of food more quickly.

While conventional and organic process produces pretty much the same quality of food, organic or natural is often a lot more expensive. So why is that? What are you paying for with these organic foods? Is it worth the dollar? How about conventional ones, will it fast-track your health to a terrible situation? Let’s try and find out.


The Different Studies

There’s a study that says there is no significant difference between conventional and organic produce. Meaning, the amount of protein, vitamins, minerals, and fat content of both crop are the same. The same study claims that no evidence supports the allegation that conventional produce increases higher risk of health-related diseases.  The study receives extensive criticism from the scientific community due to faulty methods they use to check on their findings. They believe that it leaves out essential studies about a variety of nutritional compounds.

The British Journal Nutrition released an international announcement of more than 300 studies on organic produce. It says that researchers found organic foods more nutritious than the conventional ones. That is because it contains up to 70% antioxidants combined with a different variety of vitamins and minerals. Researchers found that even though the chemical fertilizers used in conventional produce allows the products to grow faster and bigger, it hinders antioxidant development. Therefore, though the fruits and vegetables are bigger and look a lot tastier than the organic produce, it doesn’t contain the same health benefits at all. Additionally, antioxidants are developed as the vegetables and fruits fight to grow and survive. So when they are coated or protected by different sorts of chemicals, there is going to be a different nutritional result.


The Procedures

Conventional produce contains 30% increased risk of pesticide contamination. That is why the people who usually eat conventional food tend to have pesticide residue in their urine which makes them exposed to higher levels of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. The conventional produce is also a 40 to 50 percent exposed to the toxic metal “cadmium” due to the treated plant soils and smokes in the industrial workplace.

The way the industrial foods are done is through planting the same crop to the same soil over and over again. They stuffed the soil with tons of fertilizers to keep it useful but don’t allow the natural cycle of composting and decomposing to occur. As a result, the nutritional value is nowhere near the organic ones. On the other hand, in organic farming, the crops are farmed to allow the soil to replenish through the process of composting. Its natural way or rejuvenation keeps all the required minerals intact. Therefore, there are balance nutrition and health benefits in organic produce compared to the conventional products.

People still have options as to what they want to eat. They have the right to decide to what are their priorities and budget. However, if chances are high and positive opportunities are given; organic produce is still the best choice. Not only it does not contain antibiotics, pesticides, and other chemical fertilizers; it also has all the nutrients and antioxidants that the body needs.
